Jerry “The King” Lawler is hosting again (that’s a good thing I guess) and quickly gets to it introducing The Dudley Boyz.
THE DUDLEY BOYZ
Great video package put together including some old school ECW footage with Paul Heyman and Tommy Dreamer. Then Edge and Christian come out to induct the boyz. Great humor and sincerity in their induction speech, including a Ron Simmons DAMN for good measure.
Bubba Ray and Devon come out to a great ovation. Well deserved indeed. I remember seeing these guys in ECW a bunch of times and they always put their asses on the line to send the fans home happy. Devon starts and absolutely slays the room with his wit and humor. His love and passion for the business, family, and life is what it’s all about. Bubba doesn’t let the crowd down either with his speech and even makes sure everyone knows they’re the first ECW Original inductees to the WWE Hall of Fame.
After a great moment bringing E&C with the Hardyz up on stage to give thanks they get cut off a moment early. Now we all know whats about to happen next. The “producer” gets put through a table and their segment ends magically. Awesome induction, one of my favorites over the years.
Jerry Lawler gives a brief intro and Hillbilly Jim’s video package comes up showing some classic 80s clips of “the fan” turned pro wrestler. I remember it well as a kid, great times. Mudlicks favorite son!
“The Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart comes out and gives an awesome intro for Jim. He showing great love for Hillbilly Jim, telling his entire come uppings, injury, and return to WrestleMania III.
Hillbilly Jim starts and sadly the crowd is flat out dead for him. I wonder if people even know who he is besides the older or hardcore fans? I’m super interested, but here I am sitting at home in my living room watching this on the WWE Network.
I’m admittedly more of fan than an addict so I never research wrestlers but his story of joining up with Stu Hart and Stampede Wrestling was pretty cool. He continues on with some great road stories, and his running theme of ‘Opportunity.’ The crowd finally giving him the respect he deserves and have warmed up real well to him which is great.
Hillbilly Jim is a tremendously gracious person who told an honest tale of a guy who never would have had such an amazing life without this industry providing for him as it has.
2018 LEGACY HALL OF FAME
Stan “The Man” Stasiak
Rufus R. Jones
Lord Alfred Hayes
This was a 30 second per person ramrodding. Kind of a letdown especially for Lord Alfred Hayes who deserved more than this token induction. I get it, he’s dead, but they could have done a 3-5 minute piece on him and had 2 old schoolers come up and tell a story or two about him.
The Ivory video package is now on, let’s see how much they mention her history with G.L.O.W. if at all. Overall the video package is good showing her as an early seedling to what has become the Women’s Revolution. Without ladies like her it never would be where it is today.
Molly Holly comes out to do her introduction. Molly talks about all of the great things Ivory did her time helping people and giving back. She even mentioned G.L.O.W. for a hot minute. Apparently Ivory traveled the world with her pet cat. Crazy shit you learn on these shows.
Lillian Garcia announces Ivory and out she comes.
Ivory starts telling stories and doing her thing. Mentioning G.L.O.W. as her start and finishing her career at the WWE Hall of Fame. Then went onto talking about Hurricane Katrina and the 10 days she spent helping rescue animals. A lovely lady indeed. Super gracious in her speech and hilarious how many times she ended up mentioning G.L.O.W. in all of this. I think that loose microphone at the HOF ceremonies is what makes it endearing for the fans. That real slice of personality.
Ivory on the mic this long is hilarious. She’s a little bit nuts and a lot of fun. She’s got the crowd howling. In her own words “It’s her wedding.”
CELEBRITY WING INDUCTEE KID ROCK (this is all i’m posting because I could care less about this part, piss break)
Road Dog comes out and sets the crowd on fire with his personality and charm. Gushing over his love for Double J and it’s great to see.
Jeff Jarrett comes out with a live mic and starts to do a promo. He’s taking in the moment and already laughing, “I’m not going to make it through this damn speech.” lol love JJ for his honesty. ‘You Deserve It’ chant erupts. He’s talking about his favorite times, calling out Shawn Michaels and then giving the nod to The Miz. Even calls out the Bullet Club (but not by name.)
Double J gets choked up. Thanks his 2 best friends in the business. First Brian James aka Road Dog. Secondly, Owen Hart. He says some really nice words about Owen and what he meant to him. Good times.
He tells some great Owen stories, an E&C story, and some fun career bits. Onto the thank you portion where he’s pretty much getting them out while choking back tears. Pretty obvious how much this means to him.
Best speech of the night. It’s not over Brian and Jeff are hitting the audience singing Be My Baby Tonight. Cringe-worthy performance but fun to watch.
++ This is where I’m signing off people. It’s been 3 hours and I have to admit, while I enjoy the Hall of Fame show every year I just can’t sit through it all at once. Life, family, and still another 11-12 hours of wrestling in the next 3 days. I’ll finish and update this post during the week when I have time to watch the rest. ++
